Pythagoras Cave

Placed on the mountain of Kerkis at Marathokampos.      In antiquity, Pythagoras was credited with many mathematical and scientific discoveries, including the Pythagorean theoremPythagorean tuning, the five regular solids, the Theory of Proportions, the sphericity of the Earth, and the identity of the morning and evening stars as the planet Venus. It was said that he was the first man to call himself a philosopher (“lover of wisdom”)[c] and that he was the first to divide the globe into five climatic zones

 

Efpalinio Tunnel

The Tunnel of Eupalinos or Eupalinian aqueduct is a tunnel of 1,036 m (3,399 ft) length running through Mount Kastro near Pythagorion, built in the 6th century BC to serve as an aqueduct. The tunnel is the second known tunnel in history which was excavated from both ends and the first with a geometry-based approach in doing so. Today it is a popular tourist attraction.
